What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of hands-on healthcare that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure and its function. It is based on the principle that the body has an inherent ability to heal itself, and that this process can be supported by improving movement, reducing tension, and restoring balance across the musculoskeletal system.

Osteopaths assess and treat the body as a whole, rather than focusing only on the site of pain or injury. They consider how muscles, joints, ligaments, connective tissues, and the nervous system work together, and how imbalances in one area may contribute to symptoms elsewhere. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may include gentle joint articulations, soft tissue massage, stretching, and other manual techniques designed to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.

Osteopathy is commonly used to help manage conditions such as back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, and posture-related issues. It can also support general wellbeing by promoting better movement, circulation, and body awareness.

Suitable for people of all ages, osteopathy takes a patient-centred approach, combining hands-on treatment with advice on exercise, posture, and lifestyle to support long-term health.

Dr Rani Falzon
B.Sc, M.H.Sc(Osteo)

Growing up, Rani has always had a strong fascination with health, the human body, and how it functions. During high school, she focused her studies on health, biology, and physical education, which confirmed her desire to pursue a career in the healthcare industry.

Rani discovered osteopathy through her own experiences with treatment and rehabilitation following sporting and dance-related injuries as a teenager. What she particularly appreciated about osteopathy was the practitioner’s ability to assist with pain management through hands-on manual therapy, education on lifestyle modifications, and tailored exercise rehabilitation. She valued the holistic approach, which focuses not only on treating the injury but also on implementing strategies to prevent recurrence.

Rani graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Science (Osteopathy) and a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy). She has experience treating patients across the lifespan, from 6 years of age and older, and from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds, managing a variety of conditions and concerns.

With a strong focus on individualised care, Rani treats a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions and has a particular interest in neck pain, jaw pain, lower back pain, and headaches. She utilises a variety of techniques, including soft tissue massage, joint articulation, muscle energy techniques, and indirect approaches. Rani has also completed additional training in dry needling and cupping, which she incorporates into her treatments where appropriate.

Rani understands that every person is unique and tailors her treatment and management plans to suit each individual’s needs. She strongly believes that osteopathy should address the underlying cause of pain, not just the symptoms. Her passion is helping patients return to their daily activities and sports, and supporting them in becoming the best version of themselves in terms of  their health and wellbeing.
